1930s Art Deco "Normandie" Fruit Bowl by Luc Lanel for Christofle

This truly iconic Art Deco Fruit Platter or centrepiece was designed by Luc Lanel for Christofle, France in 1933. It was intended for use in First Class Dining Room on the Luxury Transatlantic liner the SS Normandie.

A stiking piece or Art Deco design, the highly polished platters sits atop a raised pedestal encircled by 4 spheres. the whole piece uscrews into 3 pieces to facilitate cleaning.

This is an opportunity to own a piece of 1930s modernist glamour embodied in this stunning piece of french Silverware.

Condition: Excellent with very minor marks consistent with age and slight use. One small (less than 1mm) pitt to the top surface.

Luc Lanel (1893-1965) was a very talented sculptor and creator. He headed the design department and the “Orfeverie” section at Christofle from 1920 to 1946. His most important creation was the “Odulations” and "Normandie" collection and other iconic designs created for the First Class dining room and the Grand Bar of the great ocean liner the S.S. Normandie which was considered the epitome of Art Deco Design in every way.
